Towards a more realistic heterogeneous electro-Fenton

With the aim of bringing heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) treatment one step closer to a more realistic operation, scaling-up that technology was evaluated. Assays were performed firstly at lab scale in stirred-tank reactor and then bench flow setup including jet aerator microfluidic flow-through electrochemical cell. A fluidized-bed added bench-scale installation order retain solid catalyst, iron-containing alginate beads. To best authors’ knowledge, there are no precedent studies reporting EF similar scale-configuration. Hydrogen peroxide generation clofibric acid removal assessed both scales current intensities 0.12 0.25 A. Results showed scaled-up efficient cost-effective: 18 times volume treated, mass production hydrogen 28 higher specific cost for cut by than half. The most turned out be scale. Those results highlighted importance design process. Additionally, aromatic intermediates detected liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) degradation route suggested. Carboxylic acids also measured HPLC confirming pollutant is mineralizing.
